In thinking about what we talked about in today's video, I think Frustration = Passion - Progress (or the ability to make progress), what do you think?
Bob Bowman on Goal Setting
Our sport is measured by the time result only.  So we need to find a way to get it done and figure it out.  How do you break down the pieces of your goal swim to make sure you know what to be working on and what creates actual progress towards your goal times?
Nothing ever goes 100% according to plan, like this season so far.  But having a target or an idea of what you want to create keeps you on track.  What is your goal for this coming season, what do you want your results to look like?
When your motivation drops, what does Bob say are two reasons that might have happened?
How can you create goals with purpose so you can hold onto the meaning of them through the time it takes to achieve them?
How can you stay reminded of your goals so you don't lose track of what you're up to over the time it takes to achieve them?
The Golden Rules
Sometimes we're not making the progress we want not because we don't have an exciting vision but because we don't have a proper plan to follow.  What's your vision, your dream, but more importantly, tell me about your plan?
Small decision in critical moments done consistently build your dreams.  What are some of the short term patterns you need to create for yourself and how will you build consistency in doing them?
Write down your goals and put them somewhere that you can see them every day, in the morning, and another place where you can be reminded if you tend to forget your purpose throughout the day.  Where will you post your written goals?
Why does Bob say that attitude is the most important thing you're going need to work during this process.  When you're focusing on details and the "mundane" (that means kind of boring, repetitive or dull) what kind of attitude would help you stay in passionate pursuit?
Why does Bob want you out of your comfort zone?
I love the idea of a performance PREview.  What would you like me to help you achieve this coming season?
Adversity will make you stronger, I fully agree.  IF you can get through it.  Not if it breaks you.  What are your strategies to overcome times when you are challenged and feel like a sugar cookie in the circus?
Here's that book cover for you:
Ok this is a longer video (18 minutes), stay with me on this, there's a ton of learning in here, it's super dense.  I'm not going to ask you about every little thing because each sentence he says can be drilled down to so many levels.  Just watch and listen for all the things we're talked about and how they come together to make a "champion."
What makes champions great?
"Champions produce normal and predictable performances, in abnormal, unpredictable environments."  ... "to get the best possible results in the worst possible conditions."  Why does it matter that they can perform when things are NOT good around them?
Why is the process more important than the outcome?  "Don't look at the scoreboard, just play the next play."
"The dream ignites the creative process."  But the long term dream only takes shape by doing a series of things RIGHT NOW to get closer.  But what do you do when the cookie's in your hand, during those critical moments?  What's your plan for how you will aim yourself during critical moments?
Were you surprised that Michael either hit his goal times EXACTLY or was within hundredths of a second?  That's uncannily accurate.  How do you think he did that?
"I tried to give them opportunities every day to build confidence and see themselves as the person they want to be."  ... "If you can see a clear picture of where you want to go, set up the plan for how they want to get there, and then on a daily basis come in and rehearse that success."  What will you do to become a champion?
