Global TIES Application
The Global TIES program offers two courses:

ENG 100D - Design for Development - a 4-unit course in which students learn about the human-centered design process and participate in a group project designing a solution in partnership with a nonprofit organization or NGO.  The project is designed to be completed within the quarter in which the course is offered.  ENG 100D must be completed before or concurrently with the first quarter in ENG 100L.  Students may register directly for this course without applying to Global TIES.  If you need the prerequisites waived, please contact the Global TIES Specialist, Barb Donovan, at bdonovan@eng.ucsd.edu.

ENG 100L - Design for Development Lab - a 2-unit course in which students join teams working on longer term projects with nonprofit organizations or NGOs.  In these projects, students will not only design but prototype solutions.  Students may take ENG 100L for up to six quarters for academic credit.  You must apply and be accepted to Global TIES in order to enroll in ENG 100L.  (See "How to Apply" below.)

Global TIES courses may often  be used to fulfill technical or professional elective, practicum, and minor requirements.  Please check with the relevant department, college, or school for details.

HOW TO APPLY

Step 1: Check out the Global TIES projects!
All students interested in being a part of a Global TIES team should check out the current projects. Descriptions of the projects and meeting times can be found at http://globalties.ucsd.edu/projects/index.html. Consider which projects best fit your interests and course of study. You may choose to apply for a new or continuing project. During the application process, you will be asked to rank your top three project preferences.

Step 2: Apply to the Global TIES program using this form
Via the application form, you provide Global TIES with the information we need to select and assign team members based on preferences and project needs. After you submit your online application, you will be sent an email confirming that we have received your application.  After your application has been reviewed, you will receive another email advising you of your status. If accepted, this email will include the information you need to register for your Global TIES project.  All students accepted into Global TIES are preauthorized to register for their assigned section.  This means that a space has been reserved for you in your assigned section.

Step 3: Sign up in WebReg according to the instructions in your acceptance email.  Out of  consideration for other interested students, please register for your assigned section at your first opportunity.  This will help us determine how many students we can accommodate on a given project.

If you would like to switch teams after you have applied and been accepted please send an email to mbratton@eng.ucsd.edu stating what team you're on, what team you wish to switch to, and why you would like to switch.I
