Global Goals Challenge

Global Goals Challenge - is a three-day challenge-based workshop that engages students from Learning Futures Network and Innovative Schools Consortium member institutions to engage in an intensive design process to identify and suggest solutions to problems related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We can accommodate 50-100 students for each challenge with 60-70 being the ideal range.

Student participation is facilitated by a hosting teacher and an experienced educator from Curtin University and includes mentoring opportunities with experts from academia, industry, community and cultural organisations. This can also be accompanied by a teacher professional learning event around managing open-ended challenge-based enquiry connected to curriculum outcomes and the development of learner capabilities.  
 
The Global Goals Challenge is an ACES recognised program and all participants become eligible to apply for SHAPE Awards.

Mentor Duties

• Mentors engage with groups of students completing a Global Goals Challenge;
• Mentors are requested not to try to teach or instruct, but rather to to question, understand, and guide students to discover deeper, more challenging, or more accurate engagement with the problem s and solutions they are working on;
• Mentors should listen deeply, and question for understanding - all advice and guidance should be framed as questions;
• Mentors may speak to any working group during their rostered time;
• Mentors are asked to advise ASAP if plans change and they cannot attend.

Mentor Responsibilities and Expectations

• Mentors do not need to be subject matter experts - the ability to think critically and to have a good general knowledge is all that is required;
• Mentors agree to provide a minimum of one hour of their time during a 3-day Global Goals Challenge event
• Mentors ideally should hold a Working With Children Card
• Mentors may be photographed during the course of the event
• Mentors are welcome to attend student presentations on Day 3.
• Mentors are unpaid but we recognise your contribution with a Certificate of Appreciation
