Parent Preliminary Survey ~ GCPS Recovery Plan
This is a brief survey (ONLY 4 QUESTIONS) to gather data from parents regarding the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.   A parent may submit one survey for each GCPS child in the home.  The survey should be completed and submitted by June 17, 2020.  YOU HAVE TO HIT SUBMIT AT THE END.

GCPS will also be seeking input from staff and students through different surveys.

At this time, there are a number of unknowns; including the stage in which the state of Maryland will be as we move closer to the GCPS start date of August 31. The school system has begun to plan for all three stages just in case there is regression over the summer or at any other point in the school year. We are working to consider as many factors as possible as we decide on viable options. The most important factor is the safety of each student and staff member. If Maryland has progressed to Stage 3, the most desirable option is to return to the school setting full-time. However, we must plan for alternatives that include remote learning or a modified schedule of blended learning that includes both face-to-face and remote learning in the event it is needed.

To assist parents with completing this survey, we previously released links to the CDC Guidelines and to Governor Hogan’s Roadmap to Recovery, which explains the different stages of opening in detail. The school system will also be using the CDC’s Decision Tool, the MARYLAND TOGETHER: Maryland’s Recovery Plan for Education document, and the results of this survey to help build the models to reopen our schools. The school system will be working directly with the Garrett County Health Department to ensure a safe opening of schools with the use of any and all required personal protective equipment (PPE). There will be accountability measures embedded in the reopening plan that will include attendance, grading, schedules, and workload parameters for both in-school and remote learning. The school system’s safety team will also be providing valuable input into decisions regarding social distancing, masks, sanitizing, and intensive cleaning.

The opening of school may look very different than it has in the past. We encourage every family to discuss and complete this survey together. The preliminary results will allow GCPS to begin building the models for each stage level of recovery. After the initial fact-finding, additional input will be sought from administrative and instructional staff, students, and parents. Participation in this initial survey will not eliminate anyone from providing GCPS with further information as we develop our plan.
