Industrial offshore fish farming is the mass cultivation of finfish in marine waters in net pens, pods, cages, and other confinements. These operations contaminate local ecosystems with drugs, chemicals, and untreated waste. They also compromise wild-caught fisheries, tourism, and the overall health of our food system.
We are asking the U.S. government to stop the development of offshore fish farming in U.S. waters. Unfortunately, large corporations are lobbying to advance policies that would fast track this industry for their own benefit. Over 8 million people have voiced their opposition to fish farming, while supporting sustainable alternatives. As we anticipate the actions of the new Congress, we need local organizations and businesses to stand up and protect our coastal economy and environmental health from the harmful effects of industrial fish farming.
