We, {number of signatories} Jewish students and allies, stand firmly against the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Governments’ statements in conjunction with the Students for Justice in Palestine. The incoming student government has no mandate to make such a statement; in making this statement, they do not represent the student body as a whole. As elected representatives, the student government is obliged to protect the safety and well-being of all students on campus. At this fundamental task, they have failed.                                                                                                                                                                                                

We question why the student government did not engage with a broad range of students prior to releasing a statement. This decision has further contributed to creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for many Jewish students on campus. Students have increasingly been subject to antisemitic harassment, including a driver yelling expletives at Jewish students the night the statement was released. As a campus community, we have a responsibility to protect all students, and incendiary statements like these only serve to alienate and harm the Jewish community. Due to their failure to adequately consider the community as a whole, we ask the student government to retract this statement and release an apology.
