About the speaker
(1) Maria Gonzalez-Blue, M.A., REAT, REACE, is a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist and Registered Expressive Arts Consultant/Educator. She is a founding member of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association and co-founder of the Person-Centered Expressive Therapy Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maria worked alongside Natalie Rogers as a core faculty member of the Person-Centered Expressive Therapy Institute for 15 years until its closing. She has taught at various universities in the U.S. and is an international presenter. As a board member of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association, she wrote the first standards for registration for expressive arts facilitators, consultants and educators, desiring to support non-therapists in creating healing environments in their communities. Intrinsic to her work is a commitment to the arts as a resource for spiritual exploration, and as a pathway to the essential self.

(2) Nina “Anin” Utigaard is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist, MFT and Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT). She works with individuals and groups of all ages and cultures and has maintained a private practice in San Francisco since 2005. Anin was a founding Executive Co-Chair for the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association when it started back in 1994 at the first IEATA conference in San Francisco, California. For over 10 years, she was a faculty member with Natalie Rogers’ Person-Centered Expressive Therapy Institute, and still uses the Person-Centered approach in her work with clients and students. She has presented her work nationally and internationally since 1992. Her work with trauma, addiction and adolescents began at ThunderRoad in Oakland in 1991, where she used expressive arts therapy with teens dealing with substance abuse and trauma. Anin has a fine arts and professional music background, which she combined with psychology and the humanistic approach in psychotherapy. She believes that the arts are a transformative power that can change the world we live in.
