Throughout our daily lives, we increasingly often encounter technology powered by artificial intelligence. Our encounters with AI may be intentional and planned, spontaneous, accidental, or even involuntary. In some cases, we find these technologies useful, convenient, even delightful. In others, they leave us feeling worried, irritated, or sad. Sometimes, we feel neutral or ambivalent.
In this activity, we will think about our casual encounters with AI and emotions they lead to. This is an asynchronous part of the workshop Our Relationship with AI: Exploring the Present + Dreaming Up Radical Futures (
https://radicalai.github.io) at the CtrlZ.ai Zine Fair (
http://ctrlz.ai).
Please think back to your day yesterday, dividing it roughly into three periods: morning, afternoon, and evening. During each period, note all the reasons that you encountered AI-powered technology (any apps or devices that you believe use AI), and how you felt as a result. Optionally, you can add any reflections and share whether you work with AI and your location in the world. We will not collect your name or email or any additional information about you, but we may visualize the data you provided without linking it to your identity.
We encourage you to visualize your own data, either digitally or by hand (drawing, sculpting, painting, etc). If you would like, you can send your visualizations to
radicalAI.ctrlz@gmail.com and let us know whether you'd like us to share them on the website!
