Join us for a lunchtime event about how we can better support the Latinx community. We aim to create a brave space (the space right between the comfort zone and the trigger/danger area), where we can all hear each other with openness and grow together.
What? Better Ally Series - Latinx community
When? Thursday, October 6, 12-1:30pm PDT
Where? Zoom (link sent out prior to event)
The theme for our Hispanic Heritage Month October event is the Latinx community
We will start with a discussion of this article which describes Latinx college enrollment in California, barriers to educational access, and challenges in collegiate retention: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1M5UWX8ekY4MdgELGiT63QFieXMPXtHOc/view?usp=sharing
We will then move on to discuss what it means to be an ally to the Latinx community, particularly in higher education, using these resources as a starting point:

We will work in small groups to identify where/how you could be implementing changes in your personal and professional spaces, and develop written allyship accountability and action plans.
As optional background reading, we also recommend these resources on the history of Hispanic Heritage Month in the US:
