Documenting cemeteries and burial grounds helps us be more proactive in preserving and maintaining these vulnerable sites. Cemeteries and burial grounds in the Piedmont range widely in size and affiliation and many are at risk due to neglect, vandalism, and development.

This survey is intended to connect landowners and citizens to preservation professionals who can help them identify, and document these historic cemeteries and burial grounds. We are hoping to identify sites in PEC's 9-county region, which includes Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Loudoun, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties.
