WE NEED YOUR HELP

Logansport Utilities continues its commitment in providing safe and reliable water in our community. We are now moving forward with plans to obtain even better water quality! Grant money is being awarded to Logansport Utilities to help support upgrading service lines (at no cost to you!) and our first step is updating our water service line records.

HOW TO IDENTIFY A WATER  SERVICE LINE

1. Locate the water line
Locate the water service line entering the building. You need to see the pipe where It comes through the floor or wall. It is likely located in the basement or lowest floor, or whole-house water shut-off valve near your water meter. Testing should be done where the service enters the building, before the shut-off valve and the water meter. In some instances, a very short length of lead pipe may enter the house before transitioning to another material.

HOW TO IDENTIFY A WATER  SERVICE LINE

2. Perform Surface Testing
You can use a kitchen magnet and the flat edge of a screwdriver or penny to scratch the pipe. Scratch through any corrosion buildup on the outside of the pipe. Do not use a knife or other sharp instrument to prevent puncturing the pipe. Each service line type will produce a different type of scratch. See descriptions below.
