Alternative Spring Break (ASB) 2020 Application
ASB's 2020 Application is now closed. Please email Miranda directly with questions.

Thank you for your interest in ASB! If you have any questions, please email Miranda Russell, PILA's ASB Director, at mkr8qj@virginia.edu. Please be as concise as possible; bullet points/incomplete sentences perfectly acceptable.

KEY INFO:
(1) The application goes live December 1 and will close on Friday, January 3rd. It does not matter when you submit your application during this window. Everyone who applies for a project will be placed on a trip.
(2) After you submit this form, remember that you MUST email Miranda at mkr8qj@virginia.edu with a copy of your resume **in Word doc, not PDF** form. Your resume should not contain any GPA information.
(3) Please read the information for each site very carefully. Some organizations require additional materials that you need to email to Miranda at mkr8qj@virginia.edu **in Word doc, not PDF** form. Note that descriptions of work performed during past trips are from past participants and may not 100% match up with what this year's trip will look like, but are meant to provide you with a general idea. If new trips are added, Miranda will reach out to individuals who have already submitted applications.
(4) PILA will reimburse for transportation and lodging/accommodations, but not food and other incidentals. Trips that have been historically higher cost are indicated with $$. If you want specific information about how much people spent and were reimbursed last year, email Miranda. Max out of pocket last year was ~$250 per person. 12 trips who submitted receipts paid less than $30 per person. We do not reimburse for local trips.
(5) Everyone will be required to submit a $50 seat deposit that will be completely refunded upon completion of your trip.
(6) If you are a 1L, you must participate in the first journal tryout weekend.
(7) All ASB trips completely satisfy the 40 pro bono hour requirement for a PILA grant.
