WHAT AND WHEN IS IT?

The TA Orientation is a mandatory requirement for new graduate teaching assistants. Participants will have the opportunity to begin learning about best practices in college teaching, become familiar with FIU and federal policies about college students, and find out about important resources available to TAs. The Fall 2019 TA Orientation is a half-day event, held in PG-6 116. You can participate in either of the following sessions -- whichever works best with your schedule:

          * Tuesday, August 20, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM  (registration and breakfast start at 8:30 AM)
          or
          * Wednesday, August 21, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM  (registration and breakfast start at 8:30 AM)

Before attending the orientation, participants must complete preliminary reading assignments and a quiz. The reading material and quiz are found in our website: http://cat.fiu.edu. Click the tab for "Services" at the top of the page, then select TA Orientation. The deadline for quiz completion is Monday, August 19, 2019 at 11:59 pm EST.  

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

* TAs who will begin working with students in Fall 2019.
* TAs who have already begun working with students but have not yet attended TA Orientation.
* TAs who are participating in or interested in joining the Certificate in University Teaching & Learning program. (For details, select “Services” in our website: http://cat.fiu.edu)

WHAT TO BRING?

Writing material. Given the times of the sessions, breakfast and lunch will be provided.
