The Proust Questionnaire has its origins in a parlor game popularized by the French essayist and novelist Marcel Proust (1871-1922) in the late 1800s. He believed that in answering these questions, an individual reveals their true nature. It was during this same period—in 1898—that Samuel S. Fleisher founded the Graphic Sketch Club, which would later become Fleisher Art Memorial.
In honor of Fleisher’s 125th anniversary, we have adapted the format to create The Fleisher Questionnaire, a short series of questions designed for our community. Selected excerpts from these responses will be featured later in 2023 as we celebrate the many dimensions of Fleisher as well as those that make the institution what it is.
Please answer at least five of the following questions; some are required and others provide additional opportunities for reflection or play. Feel free to be as concise or long-winded as you’d like. Names and email addresses are also required so our communications team can follow up if needed. If there are images or other materials that you would like to share with your story, please note this in your final response. Thank you for participating and being part of the Fleisher community!
