Subtitle contributors are VOLUNTEERS who help us communicate science in other languages. Contributors are not paid. We greatly appreciate our contributors, and we often mention when there are new translations to our community. *

Translations submitted and approved in this form will be placed publicly on the Amoeba Sisters YouTube video so that viewers can select that language (example: Spanish) and see those subtitles. *

The Amoeba Sisters will check that subtitles do not contain foul language and that content follows along with video content before posting subtitles. *

You can choose to remain anonymous or be credited in the video details. You can also ask us to remove the subtitles at any time. *

Translating subtitles does NOT grant any video ownership or rights associated with the video. *

Please decide on a video you'd like to translate from our biology playlist! Some of our videos have many different translations already available thanks to our amazing community so you will want to check that the language you are translating it into doesn't already exist. The video below shows how you can check.

This quick, silent video shows how to check to see if the language already exists first.

Now that you've checked that the translation doesn't already exist, please translate the title of the video. *

Now please visit our Google folder that contains all of our subtitles with titles that match the titles of the videos. These subtitles have improved and more exact timestamps (including milliseconds now). These files are .sbv files which YouTube uses, and they can be opened in programs like Notepad (on PC) or TextEdit (on Apple). *

After you opened the .sbv file, you can work directly in it. You can replace each English line with a translated line. Please keep timestamps exactly as they are and please don't add extra spaces as it should look very similar to the original, just in a different language.

Finished? You don't need to send us the .sbv file - instead, please just copy/paste all the timestamps and translated lines that you were working on into the space below.

If you would like to add a credit line in one of the translation lines at the beginning and/or end, please feel free to do so!

It may take up to a week before we are able to publish subtitles as we usually task subtitles once a week. After a week has passed, you should be able to go to the video on our channel, select the gear icon, and select subtitles to see the new subtitles added under the language you submitted. If you selected to be credited by us in the video's description, your name should also be in the video's description (you will need to click "show more" and view under the translation section in the description). If over a week has passed and you do not see the subtitles added or there is any issue with the subtitles or credit, please contact us as we want to make sure we have that correct. *

I understand it can take up to a week and that I can contact you via email at anytime (AmoebaSisters@gmail.com) if I have questions or want them removed.
