The Equine Skeleton
Bones of the lower front leg. 2nd metacarpal  (splint bone) is on the inside (medial side) of leg, 3rd (the cannon bone) in the middle, 4th (splint bone) on the outside (lateral side). Hind-leg is almost identical beneath the hock, but the corresponding bones will be termed metatarsals.
