2024 Adult Prom Volunteer Opportunities
Hello and thank you for considering volunteering with us during We Are Family's biggest night of the year-The Charleston Queer Adult Prom!

An official event for Park Circle Pride, this annual fundraising event is a great way to kick off pride month celebrations— all while supporting We Are Family, South Carolina's grassroots organization where LGBTQ+ youth thrive! This year, proceeds will support We Are Family as we embark on establishing a new LGBTQ+ Community Center opening Fall 2024!

In order for this event to run as smoothly as possible, we are looking for volunteers that will assist in the success of the event! By volunteering at this event you will not only will be given access to this event, but you will be a part of the dream team that will help us reach our goal!

Adult Prom volunteers will be divided up into 5 different teams that are vital to the success of this event:
  • Production: Do you like to organize? Decorate? Make sure the vibes are in check? This job is for you! You will be come in early on the day and assist with loading in, help setting prom decor, and make sure everything is in place make sure the venue is perfect before guest arrive. After set up is complete you are free to enjoy the event, but once the event is over at 10pm you will help break things down and make sure they are organized back in the boxes they belong in to insure a smooth load out process. Please note, this team will be doing some heavy lifting and constant movement. 
  • Box Office and ticket sales: First impressions are important and we are looking for smiling faces to help greet guest as they arrive! Your night will begin with you help checking guest's tickets and ID's at the door. After the check in process is shifted, during the event you will be split up into teams where you will help sell tickets that people can redeem for raffles, drinks, and more! This team is ideal for folks with limited mobility issues, have great guest relations skills, and above all a positive attitude! 
  • Raffle and Prom games- Let's face it: It's not a party without some fun games-especially if they are for a good cause! Throughout the night you will engage with guest as they try their luck at one of our various games including our raffle table! You will answer questions from guest and will encourage them to buy more tickets to play more games! This section is a vital part of the event because it will be a key element to raise funds for We Are Family. If you are goal driven, motivated, and love to have fun, this team is for you!
  • Food and Beverage Support- While our bartenders are making sure people stay hydrated, you will make sure their stations are stocked up! During the event you will make sure that the food table is always stocked up on food items, plates, napkins and more. Throughout the event you will also help manage the venue's sanitation needs by making sure tables full of empty plates and unwanted drinks are properly discorded to ensure the venue is a clean as possible by the end of the night. 
  • Merchandise-Show off your sales man skills and help run our 2024 Pride Merchandise booth! This section will include t-shirts, pins, fans and more! Throughout the night you will help guest find what they need to celebrate the pride season (and prom) with merchandise that will showcase their pride! You will also be helping sell tickets for raffles and drinks as needed. If you have some retail experience and love to talk to people this job is for you! 
Please note: Even if you choose to a certain team to be on, we are one giant team and you may be asked to assist in a different department. For this event you will not need to attend a volunteer training because you will be trained by your team leader the night of your event.

Day of logistics:  All teams members (expect for production team) are to be at the venue no later than 4:45pm to meet with you team leader for a quick check in. Production volunteer team timeframe will be roughly 9am-2pm and 9:45-11pm. At the end of the event, plan to stay at least 1 hour after the event is over to assist in a quick, easy, and effective clean-up/load out. While volunteering with us, you are welcome to wear your prom best, a costume that is on this year's prom theme, or something comfortable. After all, it is Queer Prom!  Once you check in with your team leader, you will get a name tag that will serve as your "Ticket" to prom. Please remember to wear this at all times. During the event, you WILL have a chance to experience the magic of prom as you will rotate with your fellow team members throughout the night. We just ask that you communicate with your fellow teammates to make sure areas are covered as needed. 

Volunteering at Adult Queer Prom is like no other experience and will be a night to remember! This event would not be possible without your help!
