Hello everybody!

My name is Daniel Candelaria Olvera and I am the Census Organizer with Avenue.
2020 is going to be a very important year for our country and community in that we are having a Presidential election, but also the 2020 Census will be taken place. You may be wondering why is the Census so important? and the answer boils down to 2 components: Money and Representation! If our community is not counted properly then our share of the pie of federal funding and resources will be lesser than it should be, which translates to lack of representation in Washington DC, less support for our schools, for our roads and communities, and less services that our community needs. The Census counts everybody regardless of immigration status and it does NOT ask about immigration status or citizenship. It only happens once every 10 years, and everybody should fill it out so that our community can have the representation it deserves!

Currently there is a lot of misinformation out there concerning the Census, about who can fill it out and who can't, and a lot of fear among parts of our community about filling out  a government document. We need to go out to every single home in our neighborhood to dispel this misinformation and educate our folks that filling out the Census is a good thing for our neighborhood! Mi nombre es Daniel Candelaria Olvera y yo soy el organizador del Censo de Avenue. El año 2020 va a ser un año muy importante para nuestro país y nuestra comunidad ya que vamos a tener elecciones presidenciales y el Censo del 2020 también va a suceder.  ¿Porque es el Censo tan importante? Por dos simples razones: ¡Dinero y Representación! Si nuestra comunidad no es contada en su totalidad, entonces nuestra pieza del pastel de fondos federales y recursos seria mucho menor de lo que en verdad debe de ser, lo que también significa una pérdida de representación política en Washington DC, menos apoyo a nuestras escuelas, para nuestras carreteras y calles, y mucho menos servicios que nuestra comunidad necesita. El Censo cuenta a todo mundo, sin importar estatus migratorio y NO SE LE VA a preguntar sobre su estatus migratorio o ciudadanía. ¡El Censo solamente se recauda cada 10 años, y todos nosotros en nuestro vecindario tenemos que participar para que tengamos la representación y recursos que merecemos!

En este momento hay mucha desinformación de lo que es el Censo, sobre quien, y quien no puede llenarlo, y mucho miedo en nuestras comunidades inmigrantes por el hecho de que se trata de un documento del gobierno. ¡Necesitamos ir a todos los hogares de nuestro vecindario y desmentir estas falsedades y educar a nuestra gente que llenar el Censo es algo positivo y de beneficio para nuestro vecindario! ¿Podemos contar con usted para que nos ayude a hablar con toda la gente del vecindario?
