Scottish Attachment in Action and our partners are working on an Education Project which is looking at schools who show they love and care for their pupils. We want to understand and โ€˜mapโ€™ what schools do across Scotland so that we can help improve the experience for you, your children and their teachers.

The idea of nurture highlights the importance of relationships and social environments โ€“ who youโ€™re with, and not who youโ€™re born to โ€“ and its significant influence on social emotional skills, wellbeing and behaviour. Nurture focuses on wellbeing and relationships to support the growth and development of children and young people.  The nurturing approach offers a range of opportunities for children and young people, giving them the social and emotional skills to do well at school and with peers, develop their resilience and their capacity to deal more confidently with the trials and tribulations of life, for life.

Attachment is an emotional bond with another person. A school with an attachment focused approach recognises that all pupils have the right to feel secure and safe in their lives and relationships. All staff know the lasting impact of trauma and lack of safety upon pupils and their relationships and use this knowledge to understand behaviours and support young people through their emotional learning.
