Decatur Farm to School Committee 2023-2024

The Decatur Farm to School (DF2S) Committee, in partnership with Wylde Center, is a group that works to improve nutrition, knowledge of where food comes from, hands-on outdoor education, environmental awareness, and appetite for fresh fruits and veggies by leading efforts in the classrooms, cafeterias, communities, and gardens of the City Schools of Decatur.

The DF2S committee is actively seeking committee members for the 2023-2024 School Year and beyond.

Positions available:
  • School Garden Liaison: We are looking for one volunteer for each school. The garden liaison will represent the program at their school by working with committee members to organize volunteer days, share best practices, participate in fundraising, and work together to build strong school gardens throughout City Schools of Decatur. These committee members may be parents, teachers, or school staff members.
  • Fundraising Chair: The DF2S Committee hosts several fundraising events each year to benefit local school gardens and pay stipends for the DHS Summer Internship Program. This person will spearhead our fundraising efforts alongside Wylde Center staff and volunteers.
  • Social Media Coordinator: support the committee's work and share farm to school success stories by posting on our Facebook & Instagram pages regularly. This role will also work with the Committee Chair to keep the DF2S webpage up to date.
  • General Committee Volunteers: Want to be a part of the DF2S Committee but want to try it out before committing to a role? We still need plenty of help from community members who want to make a difference with Farm to School Programs!
What it takes to participate:
  • One 1-hour monthly committee meeting. Meetings alternate online via Zoom and in person at a CSD school garden.
  • Up to ~3 hours per week when taking on seasonal committee projects like events, volunteer days, grant giving, etc.
  • Passion for growing school gardens, improve students access to fruit and vegetables, community building, and sustainability.
  • Live, work, or have students in City Schools of Decatur
