LEARNING OBJECTIVES:   Through participating in the training seminar Meeting the Social (Pragmatic) Language Needs of Students in Schools, participants will demonstrate the following understanding:

 1.            Understanding the DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria for Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder          (F80.89).

2.            Steps for assessing Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder.

3.            Understanding how Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder manifests in the community, home, and classroom.

4.            Teaching students the progression of conversation.

5.            Understanding of the differences between conversations of boys & girls.

6.            Therapy strategies/programs for teaching preschool – early elementary students.

7.            Understanding the unspoken social rules of texting & phone usage.

8.            Understanding of the levels of friendship & the role of conversation.

9.            Teaching students how to respond to teasing.

10.          Resources to use in therapy to facilitate students' social (pragmatic) language skills.
