MPLI Application Form
*The application deadline has been extended to Thursday night, July 9th*

The Maryland People’s Leadership Institute, sponsored by Progressive Maryland, will recruit, train, and support a cohort of activists and leaders who want to run for office or run campaigns in the 2022 cycle. We are seeking folks who are committed to community-based organizing, who see a connection between elections and issues, and who want to be part of bringing about systemic change. Our Leadership Institute is supported by our allies at the Montgomery County Education Association, the Prince Georges Education Association, 1199 SEIU, and by People’s Action, our national affiliate.

Our Selection Process and Schedule:

Applications are available in mid to late June and must be completed and submitted to us no later than July 9. We’ll review applications, make selections, and conduct interviews on a rolling basis from early to mid-July. Please use the google form to complete your application. If you have any questions, please email Patty Snee at patty@progressivemaryland.org.

We anticipate offers to participate being made on or around July 20.

Training will be held between July 29 and September 15 using a virtual environment. The sessions will largely take place on Saturdays with a few weeknight sessions. Participants will be expected to attend all sessions. Participants must be dues paying Progressive Maryland members and will be asked to pay a $300 tuition fee to help cover some of the program costs. We can make flexible payment arrangements with those who may need them.

Our training will cover topics that include an overview of economic and social justice issues and the progressive movement; tools for organizing and leadership development; communication skills; running for office on a progressive platform; how to engage with the community; and components of effective election campaigns.

Training Dates: Wednesday evening 7.29, Saturday 8.1, Saturday 8.8, Wednesday evening 8.12, Saturday 8.22, Saturday 9.12, and Tuesday evening 9.15.
