Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: DEIB Advocacy in the Era of Book Bans will be a hybrid symposium at NEOnet 700 Graham Rd Cuyahoga Falls, OH. This event will explore how to be DEIB compliant amidst book banning. We welcome presentation proposals on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
Community Engagement and Partnerships: Collaborating with community organizations and stakeholders to better serve underrepresented groups and address their specific needs.
Inclusive Programming for All Ages: Designing programs and events that cater to the needs and interests of a diverse range of patrons, including children, teens, adults, and seniors.
Educating for Empathy: Using Literature to Foster Understanding and Inclusion.
Empowering Voices: Amplifying Underrepresented Authors and Stories
Media Literacy and Critical Thinking: Equipping Readers to Navigate Controversial Content

Cultural Competency
Training for Library Staff: 1)Develop a presentation on cultural competency, exploring concepts such as unconscious bias, privilege, and microaggressions and how they manifest in library settings.
2) Offer strategies and resources for library staff to enhance their cultural competency skills and create more inclusive and welcoming library environments.
LGBTQ+ Inclusivity in Libraries: 1)Program on creating LGBTQ+ inclusive library spaces, programs, and services. 2) Discuss strategies for supporting LGBTQ+ patrons, including collection development, programming, and staff training, and highlight best practices for creating affirming and welcoming environments.
Accessible Libraries for All: Cover topics such as accessible technology, physical accommodations, sensory-friendly programming, and inclusive language practices, and provide practical tips for making libraries more accessible and inclusive for all patrons.

Makerspaces with DEIB in mind.
We encourage presentations that highlight practical applications and easily replicable programs, fostering a greater understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and strategies to deal with challenges.
