Resolution:
The Lawrence County Coon and Fox Hunters Association submitted a resolution to require mandatory documentation of incidental bobcat catches in WMU 1A, hoping to show that there are enough bobcats to warrant an open season.

A Motion to publish the proposed resolution was made by the Southwest Division, seconded by the North Central Division, during the Fall PFSC Board Meeting. The Motion Carried.

The resolution is published in the Winter 2025 Conservation Lantern.

Resolution Title: Bobcat Hunting in WMU 1A

Whereas:
The Pennsylvania Game Commission Manages and Protects Wildlife and their Habitat while promoting hunting and trapping for current and future generations.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has instituted an Otter Trapping Season in 2021 in WMU 1A due to accidental catches from beaver trapping.

The population of bobcat in WMU 1A has risen steadily over the past several years based on sighting of and trail camera pictures.

Therefore, be it resolved:
The Pennsylvania Game Commission should institute reporting requirements for incidental bobcat catches while pursuing other furbearers in hopes of instituting a bobcat hunting and trapping season in WMU 1A.

Additional comments on the resolution:

Ever since its founding back in the early 30s, the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen & Conservationists (formerly Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs) has encompassed individuals and clubs/organizations interested in stewarding natural resources in the Commonwealth of PA and protecting our hunting, trapping, fishing and shooting heritage based on sound conservation principles. We abide by the tenets of the Conservation Pledge - reciting it at the beginning of each board meeting.

Though we do not always agree with every step taken, we work collaboratively with resource agencies (PGC, PFBC, DCNR, etc.) to provide a conduit for information to flow and for our grassroots membership to be heard. At the forefront of our efforts, we continue to maintain a presence in Harrisburg to make our voices as Sportsmen and conservationists heard. Our Director of Government Affairs, Mike Kriner, provides outreach and lobbying efforts in legislative and resource agency settings.

Over the years, we have impacted various decisions and activities ranging from water quality issues to guarding our 2nd Amendment freedoms.

PFSC's Mission:

To protect and conserve Pennsylvania’s Natural Resources, Outdoor Heritage and 2nd Amendment Rights.

How would you rate the PFSC's performance on carrying out its mission?
