***CALL FOR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS - DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MONDAY APRIL 19***
Filmed edition! This will be our third filmed edition of the show, which will be released via YouTube Premiere the on Saturday, May 29th. We're looking for guest performers living in the Pacific Northwest who self-identify as LGTBQIA+ to submit original videos to be featured in a cohesive, hosted format.
RENÉE’S QUEER CABARET is a series of themed “resistance variety shows” hosted by actor/musician, Renée Muzquiz. This show defies the traditional cabaret with original music and a focus on the intimate humor, joys and vulnerabilities of living as LGBTQIA+.
SEEKING ORIGINAL PERFORMANCE VIDEOS (Up to ~5 - 7 minutes. *NOTE: You only need to submit a sample of your past work or a preview of your performance idea in order to apply. Full videos will be due by Friday, May 7). These can include queer-written/created songs, monologues, scenes, sketches, poetry, spoken word, dance, drag, burlesque, storytelling, short film, clown, puppetry, multimedia, performance art, vogue, comedy and more.
Please note: Due to YouTube policies, we cannot accept videos with copyrighted music. It must be something that you have the rights to.
FILMED FORMATS FOR FINAL VIDEOS INCLUDE performances that are filmed in your home, backyard, etc., following the latest CDC guidelines for COVID-19. You may also send film or other digital work that you have created, but please do not send filmed performances that have already occurred in other venues in Portland. Let’s keep this fresh!
THE THEME WILL BE "COMEBACK SPECIAL." We are on the verge of coming out of the pandemic, so how will you show up for yourself and each other from now on? The pandemic has undoubtedly shifted something in all of us, so this is your opportunity to start over and make a bold new statement about yourself and/or the world.
Performers are encouraged to submit proposals for comedic OR dramatic pieces that fit in any interpretation of this theme (ie. renewal, rebirth, making a comeback, coming out again, reinvention, returning to your idea of "normalcy," returning to friends or loved ones, comeback sauce shenanigans?, whatever you think!).
