Have you figured out some new and exciting ways to deliver the curriculum? Have you used mobile or computer technology in a fresh and innovative way in your classroom? Do you know a fellow teacher who is implementing creative teaching practices?

Concordia University's Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP), a government-recognized educational research centre, is launching a new initiative to recognize and celebrate the outstanding work that teachers are doing in their classrooms.

What are these awards?

These awards have three purposes—first, to recognize innovative teaching practices; second, to bring teachers together with educational researchers to discuss how their innovations connect with recent research findings; and third, to spread the word about these innovative practices to other teachers and researchers.

This year, the CSLP will offer 2 awards of $1000.00.

Winners will be invited to present their innovation at a CSLP Symposium held in May 2024, at which educational researchers will be on hand to dialogue with them about their work. In addition, with technical assistance from the CSLP, winners will also be invited to make a Youtube capsule to showcase their work to other teachers in Quebec.

Award Categories

Technological innovation

Innovations of this kind could include new uses for computer programs, mobile phone applications, video games, or other kinds of digital tools. If you are using technology in a new way that gets students engaged, we want to hear about it.

Curriculum innovation

These could include new Learning and Evaluation Situations (LES) that you designed yourself, fresh approaches to an especially difficult topic, or experiential learning activities that students do at home or outside the classroom. Any innovation that helps students understand the curriculum is the kind of thing we are looking for in this category.

Eligibility

Any teacher (full-time or part-time) in a government-recognized public or private elementary or secondary school in Quebec is eligible to apply for these awards. CEGEP professors are not eligible for this award.

Nominating a colleague

Teachers and school administrators are encouraged to nominate a fellow teacher who has developed innovative teaching practices.

Application procedure

Please complete this initial application form, briefly describing the teaching innovation you or your colleague has developed. Several finalists will be selected by the CSLP to complete a more detailed description of their teaching innovation (approx. 3-5 pages, double spaced). In the case that you are nominating a fellow teacher, the longer form may be completed either by you (the nominator) or the teacher being nominated.

Submission and deadlines

The deadline for contest entries is January 31, 2024.

Finalists will be notified by February 15, 2024, with finalists' applications due March 7, 2024. Winners will be announced on April 1, 2024, and the awards symposium will be held on May 8, 2024.
