Thanks for your interest in supporting Become's work to improve the care system. We're excited to hear from young people and young adults with lived experience of care who are interested in sharing their expertise and joining forces with others to campaign for change.
Above all, the most important thing is that you feel happy and supported to take part in this work in a way which is comfortable and where your views are respected, your lived experience valued, your time and expertise compensated fairly, and the emotional impact acknowledged and considered. You can read more about these principles at
https://www.becomecharity.org.uk/improving-the-care-system/how-to-get-involved.
Getting involved could take lots of different forms - it might include group workshop sessions if we’re creating new resources or campaigns together, as well as quicker bits of work like phone calls or email or text chats to get your views on key issues. It could include joining meetings to share your expertise directly with decision makers in the care system, raising awareness about what 'care' is through our social media, or supporting researchers with delivering high-quality and safe research with others. You’ll have control over what you're involved with, so no problem if you’re someone who prefers individual chats to group work – or vice versa.
As part of our commitment that nobody should feel unable to join for financial reasons, and to recognise the time and expertise you share with us, we typically compensate at London Living Wage (£11.05 per hour) or equivalent. The majority of our work at the minute is taking place online (rather than in-person). If you'd be keen to get involved but you might struggle with equipment access or internet/data, get in touch and we'll see if we might be able to help.
If you're happy to, please leave your details below and we'll be back in touch to start a conversation about what you're interested in and how we and others might be able to help.
Remember - if you'd like some advice on anything to do with being in care, our team are here to help you. You can call the Care Advice Line on 0800 023 2033 or email
