Hi everyone,

Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Deaf & hard of hearing community committee for the 2023 festival.

We have been working with a Deaf consultant for a number of years now but we want more Deaf and hard of hearing people involved.

Who can apply?
Anyone who is Deaf, deaf or hard of hearing, enjoys going to performances and lives in or near Vancouver.

Until when?
October 11th

What will the committee do?
We will have a meeting on October 18th or 19th in person in downtown Vancouver.
If possible we might also be able to have people join on zoom.
At the meeting you will:
  • decide which show(s) will have ASL-interpretation
  • decide which show(s) will have captions
  • share ideas on who in the local Deaf community should see the shows and how we can reach out to them
How do we choose the people?
We work with the Deaf consultant to choose 7-10 people.

Will you be paid?
Yes you will be paid $50 and 2 tickets to the festival.
If it is easier we can give you a $50 gift card for a supermarket.

Any questions?

You can reach out to Anika Vervecken
Anika is hearing but can help you in ASL (with a bit of patience)

The meeting will be held in ASL with interpretation into English. Do you have any other access needs? *
Why do you want to join? *
You don't have to give a big answer, it is just nice to know.
Do you want us to tell you about other opportunities? *
Each year we send out an email with information about all the shows that are Deaf/hard of hearing-friendly. Sometimes we reach out with other opportunities at PuSh or another arts organization. I could be free tickets, another committee, to be part of a show or be a consultant. This happens 3-4 times a year.
Do you want to be a community witness at our accessibility training? *
At our accessibility training (in December and January) we teach staff and volunteers how they can support Deaf and hard of hearing patrons. You don't need to prepare anything,  our Deaf consultant will do the training. When people have questions then you can answer them also so people see there are different perspectives in the Deaf community.   Community witnesses also get paid $50.
