Meet some native plants and see examples of how they work together in a low-maintenance design that protects water quality, attracts birds and butterflies, and looks beautiful! Learn how a meadow changes over time, and get tips for starting a native plant garden in your own yard.
We'll gather at the Izaak Walton League of America headquarters (707 Conservation Ln, Gaithersburg, MD 20878) where we'll tour a recently installed rain garden and native meadow. Then we'll walk to the Muddy Branch stream at the bottom of the hill and learn about simple science experiments that help us know whether our waterways are clean.
All are welcome to join us on Saturday August 21 at 10:00 AM. In case of inclement weather, we will gather Saturday August 28 at the same time.
The tour will last approximately two hours. It will involve standing and walking on uneven ground. You may get slightly wet if you'd like to practice being a stream scientist.
Please RSVP for your household to help us plan for the number of attendees. We'll send you more details ahead of the event, as well as announcements about weather delays or any other changes in plans.
