Jumpstart Program Description
What is Jumpstart?
Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students to work with preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Through a proven curriculum, these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap.
Learn more and apply at www.jstart.org to be added to the hiring waitlist. Orientation, interviews, and hiring will take place over the summer to ensure positions are filled before the fall semester begins.

About the Jumpstart Corps Member Position
Jumpstart Corps members have the unique opportunity to inspire young children to learn, serve in a local community, collaborate with others in a team, and build professional skills. All Corps members receive high quality training to help them implement Jumpstart’s outcome-based program, promote children’s school success, and build family involvement.
Participation in Jumpstart requires 300-hour term; this is completed over the Fall and Spring semester, approximately 10 hours per week.  Hours consist of training, planning for preschool classroom activities, participating in classroom activities, and professional development.

Benefits

If eligible, a $4,500 Federal Work Study Award. See information on the Sac State Jumpstart page for more information on how to determine if you are eligible for the Work Study Award.
Salary $15.00 per hour.
$1,300 AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for tuition, loans, or other qualified expenses (Awarded upon completion of 300 hours of service)
1-3 units of academic credit per semester through an academic internship course.

Typical Schedule

Available schedules are as follows:
Monday & Wednesday, 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM.
Tuesday & Thursday, 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM.

Volunteer Ambassador and Student Volunteer Leader Program Description
What is the Volunteer Ambassador and Student Volunteer Leader Program?
The Community Engagement Center's Volunteer Ambassador and Student Volunteer Leaders program strives to provide students with the leadership experience necessary to work alongside community partners and create frequent volunteer opportunities for Sac State students.

Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Strong leadership and organizational skills with attention to detail
Demonstrate flexibility and responsibility
Good communication, motivational skills, and effective follow-through

Semester-Long Volunteer Program Description
The Community Engagement Center's Semester-Long Volunteer Program is a 10-week volunteer program for Sac State students! This program will give you the opportunity to get hands-on experience working with community groups and with their constituents directly. This semester long commitment is designed to prepare students for leadership roles and to learn about the problems facing our community and be able to work to address those problems in their lives and careers after college.
For spring 2022, semester-long student volunteers served and worked closely with local organization, River City Food Bank, to help distribute meals to families in need and learn about food insecurity in our local community while having an immediate, positive impact on someone’s day.

Additional partnering organizations to be announced in the 2022 fall semester.

Full-time or part-time enrollment at Sacramento State
Open to all majors
Commit to serving 10 weeks during the 2022 fall semester
