WELCOME TO THE CONVERSATION PARTNER PROGRAM!
The purpose of the Conversation Partner Program is to bring together members of the Corvallis-area community who wish to share their language (“speakers”) and those who seek to learn or practice that language (“learners”). The Conversation Partner Program does not provide formal language instruction. Instead, our goal is to match speakers and learners for one-on-one conversations in an informal, unintimidating, and friendly setting. Each set of partners decides what they want to talk about and how often to meet, although we encourage our partners to meet for at least one hour per week if possible.
The Conversation Partner Program collects information from speakers and learners and matches them with one another based on their stated preferences. Generally, the Conversation Partner Program Coordinator does not meet with speakers and learners or perform a comprehensive background check before matching partner pairs. Therefore, please use appropriate safeguards when getting to know your conversation partner, such as meeting in a public location.
While many of our conversation partner pairs develop close friendships, we understand that not all conversation partner pairs “click.” If you don’t feel comfortable with your assigned partner, email conversationpartner@cmlcenter.org and we will re-match both of you. We also understand that schedule changes, emergencies, and unforeseen events can interfere with your ability to participate in the Conversation Partner Program. Please let us know if you are no longer able to participate, and we will re-match your partner right away.
