GEAR UP is a partnership program between the Waterbury Public Schools and Naugatuck Valley Community College to support current 10th grade students. We aim to increase the number of students prepared for and ready to succeed in college. We are planning on selecting a number of students to take college courses this summer to earn college credit and learn about interesting areas of study!
(1) This is the preliminary application. GEAR UP will use criteria below to select students:
-Responses to this form's essay questions
-Passing grades, Attendance, Tardiness, and Credits earned
(2) Application closes Sunday, May 7th @ 5:00pm
(3) Selected students will be notified with an email to guardian email by May 12th. These students will follow a link in the email to enroll in NVCC.
PROGRAM INFORMATION:
- This program runs from June 26 - August 3, 2023 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8:00 - 12:00
- Thursdays are optional college visit and leadership opportunities
- Students will enroll in one class to take during the summer: Intro to Business, Intro to Human Services, Intro to CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
- Course results will be officially and permanently on student college transcripts
- This program is FREE. Cost of courses, supplies, meals, and transportation (Waterbury residents only) are provided.
