Schnauzer Rescue Queensland - 2023/24 Waitlist Application
Thanks for considering welcoming a Schnauzer into your life. Before you proceed with this application, we ask you to make yourselves aware of the following:

1. Whilst we do have puppies come in occasionally, most of our dogs are older dogs.

2. Many have come to us with pre-existing behavioural or medical conditions (sometimes both) that will require your ongoing management and attention. (All dogs are vet checked at our expense prior to rehoming).

3. Dealing with this will take a combination of your patience, ongoing rehabilitation and possibly some financial resources.   Does your lifestyle, and/or work commitments allow the time to adequately put the dog as a priority?  Is your home and yard setup safe and suitable for a dog long term?

4. Issues can be solved in most dogs, but it may take many months of your input and dedication. Some dogs may just be the way they are, and you need to accept that this is the case. Patience and persistence, and lots of love and your time and input will be key.

5. Contrary to popular opinion, we do not have a cupboard full of Schnauzers ready to go! We only, on average, have 15-20 to rehome a year. If you are offered a Schnauzer, it may not be exactly what you were thinking. It is ok to say no and doesn't preclude you from future dog/s.  Sometimes we get little notice of an incoming dog.

6. We will use all this information to make our decision on rehoming a Schnauzer. We rehome according to the needs of the dog, not according to where you are on our wait list.

7. This list will be archived every year. We will contact you again to see if you want to be included. Please save our valuable volunteer's time and advise if you want to be removed at any time or your circumstances have changed.

8. For logistical and operational purposes, we currently accept applications from South East Queensland/far Northern NSW residents only.

9. We also recommend you keep an eye on www.dogzonline.com.au which lists puppies and older mature dogs (this is the only place we recommend you buy a schnauzer from as they are pedigree and their breeders follow a code of ethics.)  There are also a countless number of smaller Rescue groups desperate for homes if you're not set on a bearded buddy.

Whilst rehoming a Schnauzer in need may sound like it's not for the faint-hearted, the rewards are plentiful. Not only are you giving a Schnauzer a new life, you are also helping an animal  find the love and companionship they may have never known. The bond that you will form is one that will last for eternity.
