MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION / APPLICATION
DEADLINE TO APPLY:  MARCH 25, 2022

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Undergraduate Students:
• Be enrolled as a major or minor in a sociology program or a program sociological
in nature
• Be at least a junior (third year) by standards of the host institution
• Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.3 on a four-point scale
• Have maintained the equivalent of a 3.0 GPA in sociology courses taken at SJSU
• Have completed at least four courses (the equivalent of 12 semester hours) in
sociology at SJSU (Credit/No Credit classes do not count with the exception of
classes taken in Spring 2020)

Graduate Students:
• Be officially admitted to graduate study in sociology at the host institution
• Completed one-half year of graduate study in sociology (i.e., one semester or two
quarters or the equivalent academic unit)
• Graduate GPA of a B or better

LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP IN AKD INCLUDES A ONE-YEAR SUBSCRIPTION TO SOCIOLOGICAL INQUIRY. WITH YOUR MEMBERSHIP CERTIFICATE YOU WILL RECEIVE A FORM THAT MUST BE MAILED TO ACTIVATE THE SUBSCRIPTION.

Directions:
  1. Fill this form to apply to AKD by March 25, 2022
  2. Email a .pdf of your unofficial transcript to amy.august@sjsu.edu with the title, "AKD Transcript" by March 25, 2022
  3. By late-April, you will receive an email informing you of your acceptance or if you will need to reapply at a later date. The email will include a link for membership payment by credit card.

Cost:
Membership dues are $50 (one-time payment for lifetime membership). Add $15 if you wish to order an honor cord (optional) to wear at commencement. Add $10 if you want a lapel pin (optional).
