College of the Desert Cooperative Work Experience Education - Employer Intern Request Form
Greetings Community Partners,

Thank you for thinking of College of the Desert students!

Cooperative Work Experience Education is an important component of the education and training that students receive at College of the Desert. The purpose of the Work Experience Program is to enable students to integrate their classroom learning into a real work environment through participation in a paid or unpaid job placement. Students who participate in a Work Experience course work on 21st-century employability skills as well as three S.M.A.R.T. learning objectives/goals throughout the semester. During the course, students will coordinate a total of four required consultations, which two are conducted at the student's job placement. Upon completion of the course, students will earn college credit and receive an employer evaluation based on their completion of the three S.M.A.R.T. goals and application of the employability skills within their work environment.

The goal of the program is to guide students in becoming better employees and to enhance their skill level and application of classroom theory into a job setting. Internships are an important component within the Work Experience program. Benefits to agencies in offering internship opportunities to students include:

1. Access to new expertise, trends, and educated talent
2. Opportunity to evaluate and screen students for future agency positions
3. Reduces recruitment cost
4. Enhances company image
