Welcome to Climate Hacks! The first ever virtual hackathon hosted by Society of Women Coders targeted at fighting the Climate Change - Climate Clock battle (https://climateclock.world/)
This hackathon was created with the objective to provide a safe space where young women from all over the world interested in STEM can work together, build connections, and learn new skills.
The goal of this hackathon is for participants to build a project around a solution/idea/product/service that tackles this growing and VERY REAL issue of our living world in their local region with technology.
 
Dates - March 5 - 7, 2021
Duration - 48 hours
Team - Maximum 2
Target Audience - 14 years or older girls

Individuals or teams of 2 will work together to come up with a solution that can educate or solve a specific environmental issue in your city or country. Some examples may include a website containing different resources about environmental changes, a website that sells a product that has a zero ecological footprint replacing current market, an app to keep track of your ecological footprint, a quiz to test someone’s knowledge on environmental issues, or even a prototype of a product that can be considered environmentally friendly.

What is a Hackathon? How does it work virtually?
A hackathon is an event where participants get together for a short period of time to collaborate on a project. The participants work rapidly to achieve their task, as the events generally only last 1-2 days. Climate Hacks will be go on for 2 days.

Who is eligible to participate?
This hackathon is open to women (cis & trans) and non-binary participants only. Men are welcome to mentor, volunteer, judge, or participate as sponsors! You must be 14 years or older to participate in this event. Separate registration process for SOWCoders Alumni.

​What is expected of the participants?
Whether you're just getting started or you've been programming since an early age, virtual hackathons are a great place to learn new skills, build your network, find jobs, and have fun! We have been hard at work to create a memorable and fun virtual experience for everyone, whether you are an experienced hacker or a first-timer!

​Are there prizes?
Yes! There will be multiple prizes such as laptops, tablet, hoodie, swag etc.

​What if I don't have an idea for a project?
Our hackathon is very beginner friendly! We will have intro workshops tailored to first-time hackers!

​Will there be Mentors to help during the hackathon?
Yes, there will mentors to assist. Mentor schedule will be shared closer to date.
Mentoring will all be done through Discord(link will be a part of your acceptance email) which will allow you to message a specific mentor or send a general message.

​How can I prepare for the hackathon?
Our hackathon is very beginner friendly! We will have intro workshops tailored to first-time hackers!

​How many people can work on one project?
Maximum - 2

​Can I start working before hand on my project idea?
You are welcome to brainstorm ideas before the actual event! However, all projects should be coded and built from scratch

How will I submit my project?
Your project will be submitted through Devpost. Click on the "Submit Project" button at the top of the site to access the Devpost. Your submission must include a video (no longer than 2 minutes) that showcases your project, a basic description of your project, and the challenge(s) for which you want your project to be considered.

Is there a cost to attend?
This hackathon is absolutely free of cost to attend.
