Escape the Haffenreffer
Welcome to "Escape the Haffenreffer," an escape room run by the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology at Brown University!

We’re launching the "5th edition" of our escape room as a virtual game in celebration of Anthropology Day, February 18th, 2021. Every year, the American Anthropological Association invites everyone to celebrate anthropology and anthropologists around the world through the declaration of Anthropology Day. Anthropologists, classrooms, scholars, and community members share what anthropology means for them.

Before you get started, please consider taking a 5-minute, pre-game survey: bit.ly/2M0iKS9

There's a clue at the end of the survey that you might find helpful!

Escape the Haffenreffer is supported by generous donors to the Friends of the Haffenreffer Museum.

Game Guidelines & Recommendations
1. The virtual escape room is free and open to everyone, and the content is family-friendly. Due to puzzle difficulty, we suggest individual play only for ages 12 and up.

2. You can play the game yourself, or team up with friends (safely) to crack codes and solve puzzles.

3. The game is designed to take between 45 minutes and one hour.

4. To optimize gameplay, ensure that your WIFI connection is stable and consider using Google Chrome.

5. Use the game's back/next buttons to navigate through the game, NOT the browser's back button. Using the browser's back button will reset the game, and you'll have to start from the beginning.

6. If you are having trouble reading the text, consider zooming in on your browser. You may also optimize game play by opening two browser windows side-by-side.

7. Refrain from guessing answers! You can find everything you need to "escape" in the game itself OR in the links provided throughout the game. Re-reading the text or looking more closely at the images provided may help a lot!

8. If you're truly stuck on a puzzle, try submitting your best guess. If you're wrong, you may find a hint that will lead you to a solution.

9. After you play the game, refrain from sharing solutions or screenshots online—we want everyone who wants to play to have a spoiler-free experience.

10. You may want to have scrap paper and a pencil/pen handy, as well as access to a basic calculator.

If you have technical issues, questions, or concerns about the "Escape the Haffenreffer" program, email haffenreffer_programs@brown.edu. We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner.

Good luck!
