AI Institute for Exceptional Education Screener Survey for Design Activities

Thank you for your interest in our research study on considering the use of artificial intelligence for speech/language difficulties. We are human centered design researchers at the University of Washington working on a new National AI Institute for Exceptional Education. We are looking to understand how new artificial intelligence technologies might impact and ideally support the practice of speech-language pathology and its use in classrooms with children with speech/language difficulties. In this study, you will have a chance to inform the design of solutions for SLPs, teachers, and parents to enhance the reach of SLPs.

We are primarily recruiting speech and language pathologists, early education or elementary school teachers, parents of children with speech/language difficulties, and adults who had speech/language difficulties as a child.

Depending on your availability and preference, your participation in our study can be a one-time interview, survey completion, or longer-term participation in weekly activities estimated to take 20-30 minutes per week for 12-16 weeks spread across 1 year. If interested, you may choose to renew participation in the study for up to 5 years. Any data you share will be anonymized before shared publicly. If enrolled, in appreciation for your participation and contributions, we will provide a gift card of $10-$15 for each online activity and survey completion and $25-$50 for participating in interviews, focus groups, or observations depending on the length of time.

If you’re interested in participating in any or all of these activities, please fill out this 10 minute survey and you will hear from our research team about whether you qualify to participate in this study and next steps for enrolling.
