“...And Action!” How Media and Behavioral Insights Can Address the Climate Crisis

Join us on April 24, 2023 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. EDT to learn about the important role of media and behavioral insights for supporting climate action.

The recent IPCC report issued another “code red” warning for humanity - climate change is outpacing humanity’s ability to adapt. We need to dramatically reduce emissions and improve resilience this decade. Meeting this challenge will require all of the tools in the toolbox. An often overlooked tool is the power of media and behavioral insights to drive individual action, build coalitions, and mobilize political support for the urgent changes this crisis demands.

This event will explore the ways in which media and behavior change communication can support climate action on multiple fronts.

Both USAID and BBC Media Action recognize the critical role that media can play in helping people to make informed decisions, shift behavior and take action on climate change. BBC Media Action is a leader in using media and a wide variety of communications tools to reduce risk and build resilience by equipping people with practical information and platforms that support decision-making within households and communities –  inspiring people to engage in discussion about what can be done about environmental and climate issues, and to encourage accountability among leaders. USAID is partnering with more than 60 countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve resilience to climate impacts. USAID focuses on helping partner countries speed up their transition to renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, conserve tropical forests like the Amazon Rainforest and Congo Basin, and improve vulnerable communities’ resilience to climate shocks and stresses.
