CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture) are a prepaid subscription service from local food producers. Generally payment is made before the growing season, and farmers fill the subscription on a pre-set schedule (weekly or bi-weekly), 10-20 times through the late spring, summer, and early fall. Farmers select in-season produce from their own farm to fill the CSA baskets. Customers then receive the baskets at a preset location and time. In short: Community Supported Agriculture is about eating what is locally abundant and available, reducing food waste and system inefficiencies, and connecting local farmers to the people around them.
