Welcome and thank you for signing up your child(ren) into the Confirmation Program (formerly known as Edge) here at Our Lady of the Assumption in Turlock!

The preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a journey. Our program accompanies the candidates on this journey while making this journey worthwhile! There are three parts of this journey that make it worthwhile. The first is having the end goal in mind, receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. The second is to have this journey make a change in the candidate's faith life. Lastly, to participate in this journey in community.

The end goal is definitely worth the effort! By receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation we are united more deeply with the mission of the Church, the gifts of the Holy Spirit received at baptism are strengthened, and our relationship with the Holy Spirit - the Power of God - is deepened.

We should end this journey as different people then when we started. "All people are born as originals but many die as photocopies..." (Bl. Carlo Acutis). Sin leaves us in the darkness of confusion, while God's grace, mercy and forgiveness shines the light of clarity to recognize who He made us to be - Saints! We will take time to grow in understanding of the Catholic faith and the Sacrament of Confirmation to insure that we will be ready to receive the grace and power of the Sacrament and 'Go forth!'

Finally, we will be going on this journey as a community. There are parents and sponsors who will accompany the candidates on this journey. The candidates themselves will be walking on the same journey together and foster relationships geared towards the Kingdom of Heaven. Also, this program is designed to assist parents in continuing forming their children in the Catholic faith. We do not walk on this journey alone.

Confirmation is not graduation; it is not 'the end,' but the continuation of our journey toward heaven that began at Baptism. We will change through this process and be different people when we reach the end of this program.

BY SIGNING UP YOUR CHILD TO OUR CONFIRMATION PROGRAM MEANS YOU AGREE TO THE CONFIRMATION PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

The current plan is to resume in-person classes this fall for Confirmation. However due to the changing restrictions, if needed we will proceed the Confirmation Program using the zoom platform for Confirmation sessions along with video supplements and online quizzes for student engagement. Because of this we do require that each child has access to internet and a device that allows zoom video calls (Laptop, ipad, phone, etc.). Registration into our program also requires to accept the media release agreement.

Confirmation Program Expectations

1. Your child's faith formation must be a top priority for your family. There will not be absence exceptions for sports, recreational and competitive activities.
2. Confirmation classes are generally from 7 PM- 8:30 PM on Tuesdays (Unless indicated otherwise on the pending 2021-2022 Confirmation Calendar)
3. More than 4 absences per year will be monitored. Confirmation Candidates are required to attend scheduled retreats that cannot be made up. Exceeding 4 absences and/or the retreats may result in not moving forward in the program or no reception of Confirmation due to a lack of preparation.
4. An initial interview with the candidate and at least 1 of their parents.

Confirmation Interviews

Anna will meet with every candidate and at least 1 of their parents before the program starts in the fall. Expect an email from Anna to schedule a time for this interview immediately following the completion of registration into the program.

2nd Years Baptism Certificate

If your child is going to be a 2nd year candidate this fall AND he/she was baptized at a different Parish (not OLA), it is required that you include WITH your payment a COPY of your child's Baptism Certificate.

Confirmation Registration Payment

Please make sure that program fee is submitted within a week:
$100 per candidate
Please have exact cash or check written to Our Lady of the Assumption (Memo: Confirmation - Child's name)

Drop off money in an envelope with the following on it:
Confirmation
Child's Name (First and Last Name)
Date of submitted registration

You can drop off the payment at the OLA Office, in the Sunday collection, or mail it in to the church P.O.Box (P.O.Box 2030 Turlock, CA 95381)
