Multi-Tenancy in vCenter Server

We want to know how we can make vCenter Server multi-tenant and maximise resource usage of physical & virtual infra at all layers (compute, storage & networking) for standard and modern workloads.

We are working on new capabilities as multi-tenancy within the vCenter Server which will:

  • Eliminate the overhead of dedicated vCenter Server per department/tenant. It also helps to reduce the operational & maintenance complexity.
  • Provide isolation of resources between multiple department/tenants to achieve Physical/ Logical separation of resources inside vCenter Server.

This survey is to understand your infrastructure and major pain points w.r.t. dedicated vCenter Servers for multiple departments or tenants in their datacenter.

How many vCenter Servers do you have in your datacenter? *
How many different departments/tenants per vCenter Server do you have? *
What is maximum number of ESXi hosts you are operating under vCenter Server in your datacenter?
Do you have your infrastructure spread across multiple geographic locations? *
How do you currently access the infrastructure in your datacenter for provisioning, configuring and management? *
How do you ensure the infrastructure provisioned with vCenter Server is highly available and accessible for multiple departments or tenants in your datacenter?
Do you separate the infrastructure for each  department or tenant in your organisation with a separate vCenter Server? *
What is the rationale for deploying new vCenter Server in your datacenter instead of utilising existing vCenter Server? *

Sharing vCenter Server across multiple Departments/ Tenants
Isolation of resources between multiple departments/ tenants to achieve physical & logical separation of resources inside vCenter Server
Departments/Tenants will be assigned dedicated VC inventory Datacenter(s)
Department/Tenant will have full access to their vSphere Server datacenter to create and manage dedicated physical compute, networking & storage resources
Department/Tenants will not be able to access other tenants vSphere Sever datacenters
Departments/Tenants will be able to see and use all tags, content libraries, alerts, alarms, roles etc.
Will this new capability of sharing the vCenter Server improve the H/W utilisation and reduce overhead of maintaining multiple vCenter Servers in your datacenter ? *
How many vCenter Servers will you consolidate from your present datacenter by adopting new capability of sharing the vCenter Server across the multiple departments/tenants?
