NCAA Ethnicity Descriptions
American Indian/Alaskan Native:
A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North America who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition.
Asian:
A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand and Vietnam.
Black/African American:
A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa (except those of Hispanic origin).
Hispanic/Latino:
A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander:
A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.
White/Non-Hispanic:
A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, North Africa or the Middle East (except those of Hispanic origin).
Two or More Races:
A person having origins in more than one ethnicity category.
Other/Unknown:
A person unable to identify with the other ethnicity categories or origins are unknown.
Non-Resident Alien:
A person who is not a citizen or national of the United States and who is in this country on a visa or temporary basis and does not have the right to remain indefinitely.
