VAGABONDS pitch form, Spring 2023
Thank you for taking the time and care to complete this form. While we don't have the resources to respond to every pitch or offer feedback, we greatly value your time and care and support for the project.

For more information about this process, please visit: http://vagabonds.xyz/pitches.

We may share this information with members of our Editorial Advisory Board, and with our comrades at Pluto Press, but with no-one else.

This round of pitches closes on 15 June 2023.

The title of your proposed VAGABONDS book *
The elevator pitch *
A clear, pithy, irresistible description in 250 character or fewer (approx. 60 words).
What is your proposed book's key, original argument or contribution, and why is it urgent now?   *
It might help to follow this formula: (1) What is the big problem you're addressing and why should people care? (2) What are the bad solutions or approaches that tend to dominate the field? (3) How is your approach distinct? 1500 character or fewer (approx. 300 words)
A short biographical note, outlining your relevant experience and why you're the person to write this book
*
750 characters or fewer (approx. 200 words)
What are three influences that shape your book proposal?
*
These might be books, writers, social movements, intellectual traditions or something else. 750 characters or fewer (approx. 200 words)
What is your theory of change and how will your proposed book help create that change?
*
Authors would be well advised to give ample consideration to this question. VAGABONDS specializes in books that aim to have a strategic impact in the world. Simply saying people ought to think differently and my book will help or make them think differently tends to be a weak, unstrategic argument. Don't feel like you need to tell us what you think we want to hear.  500 characters or fewer (approx. 125 words)

Identify three distinct audiences who would be excited about this book
*
The most successful pitches are also those that are the most nuanced about their audiences. In the limited space available, be as specific as possible. Don't just write "activists, artists and academics." Tell us which struggles, which art worlds, which movements, etc. It's important to recognize that, in today's publishing landscape, author and their networks are by far the most important assets in getting books to the world. If you have personal or professional connection to certain audiences, let us know. It helps us imagine how the book will make its way in the world. 500 characters or fewer (approx. 125 words)
Realistically, when do you think you’d be able to submit a first draft of your manuscript?
*
A first draft means a completed text that is ready for editorial feedback and potentially for peer-review.

VAGABONDS values diverse voices and actively works to destroy systems of domination that amplify the privileged and silence the exploited. Is there anything you’d like to share about your experience of the world that is relevant in this regard?
*
250 character or fewer (approx. 60 words).
You may share up to three links to relevant past work
PLEASE NOTE: the adjudication committee has extremely limited time, so we advise:
  • Sharing direct links to specific and preferable shorter works (or identify the part of a longer work you think is demonstrative)
  • You might share a website or a link to a Google Doc (make sure sharing is on), but please direct us to the specific work (i.e. consider making a PDF of your chapter in an edited collection)
  • You may share video and audio, but if it's longer than 10-minutes, direct our attention to the most important bits.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
