Gun-free zones create a more dangerous situation for innocent civilians. *
We need to allocate more of our time to discussing mental health issues rather than gun control. *
In 42 of 50 states, it is legal to own a firearm silencer. A silencer, suppressor, or sound moderator can reduce the sound of a gunshot.  Banning suppressors has recently been proposed as a gun control measure, as criminals can use silencers to commit crimes and limit the ability of the police to gain an accurate position of the shooter.  However, gun control opponents say there is a need for silencers because they can negate the need for hunters to wear hearing protection.  In my opinion, people should have a legal right to own a suppressor.   *
Private-party sellers are not legally required by federal law to: ask for identification, complete any forms or background checks, or keep any sales records. This is known as the gun-show loophole. Private party sellers of guns should be treated the same as all individual sellers of goods in the U.S, and should not be restricted to new federal regulations. *
Senate Democrats recently introduced a measure that would have restricted anyone on the federal terrorism watch list, also known as the no-fly list, from being able to purchase firearms in the U.S. The measure did not pass after it was voted it down. Senators made the right decision in voting down this piece of legislation. *
The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) is a U.S. law that protects firearms manufacturers and dealers from being held liable when crimes have been committed with their products. Gun manufacturers should be held liable for crimes committed with their guns, and the law should be overturned. *
The majority of states (41) do not ban or regulate any magazines on the basis of capacity. High capacity magazines allow shooters to fire repeatedly without having to unload.  High capacity magazines should be federally outlawed.   *
Teachers should be armed. *
All assault weapons should be banned. *
Felons are currently banned from owning guns unless their home state restores their rights.  There should also be a law that bans gun ownership for people who are currently living in the same house as a felon. *
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. *
Restrictive laws often have unintended consequences resulting in a more unregulated, illegal market for the same products which puts everyone more at risk. *
