UMass Amherst Engineering RISE Scholars Application F2024
The Revolutionary, Inclusive, Sustainable Engineering (RISE) Scholar’s Program offers a variety of specialized opportunities - both academic and social - for motivated engineering students interested in helping the college support an engaging, welcoming community.
  • On the social side, RISE creates a small college feel within a larger College and University.
  • On the academic side, RISE offers students unique opportunities to meet and learn from faculty, current students, and alumni.
  • RISE scholars also have the opportunity to participate in an early arrival program to meet other first year and returning RISE scholars.
  • RISE first year first time scholars also have priority access to the Engineering Residential Academic Programs (RAPs).
RISE events and activities are centered around four programmatic areas: Leadership, Community, Sustainability, and Innovation/Entrepreneurship.

There are 75 spots in RISE for engineering students joining the college as first year or transfer students in Fall 2024. You will join our continuing RISE cohorts. RISE is open to all engineering students but is especially impactful for those traditionally underrepresented in engineering, such as women, students of color, LGBTQIA+, and those who are first generation.

We will start to review applications on February 1st and continue to accept applications until all the spots are filled. Please note that you may apply even if you have not yet decided whether to attend UMass. Your application indicates only that you would like to participate in RISE in the event that you enroll in the University. We do ask, however, that you notify as soon as possible if you decide to attend another institution so we may open the opportunity to others. If you are admitted to the program, we will notify you of your acceptance and let you know how to confirm your participation.

If you answered "No" to the previous question, please explain why you do not wish to join an Engineering Connect RAP. We're not asking to try and pressure you, but rather to understand different motivators, for example, if there is another first year RAP you are interested in joining, so we can best support all.
Please share any additional information you feel is important in helping us make a decision to invite you to join RISE.
