Transcribing Japanese Cursive Texts from the Edo Period: Workshop

Participants in this workshop (registration required) will have hands-on experience with transcribing Japanese cursive texts from the Edo period in the portal to Japanese Special Collections in the C. V. Starr East Asian Library, University of California, Berkeley https://www.arc.ritsumei.ac.jp/lib/vm/UCB/. This new tool developed in collaboration between ARC and Toppan Printing Co. applies deep learning technology in order to transcribe Japanese cursive texts and helps readers to identify characters with significant accuracy.
