Media Civics Lab Seminar-Workshop Series 2021
A joint project of the U.S. Embassy of the Philippines and Break the Fake Movement, and in collaboration with the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA), the Media Civics Lab is a Media Literacy and Awareness Training for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and other emerging community youth leaders all over the country, with the goal of equipping them with crucial responsible digital citizenship skills and grooming them to become the next breed of media literacy and awareness champions in their respective communities.
Qualifications:
- 18 years old and above
- holds a position in their locality/community either as an elected SK youth official or leader of a youth organization in the community
- is not affiliated with any individual/organization that deliberately promotes fake news
- must be available to attend at least 3 sessions of Media Civics Lab

February 27, 2021 - Seminar-Workshop on Responsible Digital Citizenship
March 13, 2021 - Seminar-Workshop on Media Literacy and Awareness
March 27, 2021 - Seminar-Workshop on Fake News and Disinformation
April 10, 2021 - Seminar-Workshop on Culture of Positive Participation
April 24, 2021 - Seminar-Workshop on Media and the Law
The Seminar-Workshop will consist of a 1.5 lecture talk from a Panel Speaker, 1-hour Breakout Room, and another 1-hour session from our partner organizations. SK and other passionate youth leaders will be given assignments in between sessions in preparation for Breakout Room activities.
Participants who will graduate from the Media Civics Lab will be given a Certificate of Completion from Break the Fake Movement and Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) and the U.S. Embassy of the Philippines and will be eligible to compete in the Small Grants Competition; the winners of which will launch their own media literacy projects in their respective communities.
