2023-2024 MGM Outreach Events 
The MGM outreach team seeks to connect our graduate students to the greater Durham area by volunteering at local schools and organizations. Below is a list of events we are proposing for the 2023-2024 academic year. As more details are finalized, we will update the poll to include dates/times/shifts for each event.

Saturday October 14th (8:30AM - 1:00PM) 
Pumpkin Patch Express, Durham Life and Science Museum 

Volunteers will stock the pumpkin patch stock, help with activities, make popcorn, assist with the maze, and check-in participants 

If you would like to volunteer with the MGM outreach team, we encourage you to register for the above date and time. However, please feel free to select a different date and time that works for your schedule.

Holiday in the Park, Durham Life and Science Museum 

Volunteers will assist visitors with the train through the North Pole, the “ice skating rink”, and other seasonal activities.

Green Level High School Genetics and Hereditary Association Panel, Zoom

Students groups perform a literature review and develop a 5-10 minute presentation. As a panel member, you would attend a virtual meeting for 1-2 days, listen to student presentations, and provide feedback.

FEMMES Capstone Project, Duke University 

FEMMES+ Capstone is a free, day-long STEM fair hosted by Duke University FEMMES+ (Females and Allies Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science) on the Duke University campus. The day is designed to introduce 4th-6th grade students in the Triangle to math, science, and engineering through fun and hands-on activities led by Duke faculty and various Duke organizations.

Saturday April 13th  (Likely 1:30PM - 4PM) 
Science Spectacular, Duke University 

Science Spectacular occurs during Duke alumni weekend. The event is for children of all ages where booths from different Duke organizations are set up. Children and their families can walk through and participate with different activities prepared at each station. The event takes place in French Family Science Center.

Saturday April 20th (9:30AM -5:30PM)

Triangle SciTech Expo is a unique event that assembles scientists and technical professionals from universities, organizations and industry to engage visitors of all ages in the excitement of science and technology. We provide leaders in SciTech fields a prominent opportunity to showcase innovations and research while engaging visitors in interactive programs that actively spark their interest in STEM fields. Programs are designed for all ages and stages of learning, and families are encouraged to attend.

Occurs at the Natural Sciences Museum in Raleigh (~35 minute drive from campus). This will be a booth style event.
