"Thriving, Not Just Surviving" is a student-led initiative that pairs small, specialist-led educational workshops with impactful and reflective self-care activities to create an outlet and supportive community for survivors of interpersonal violence (sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking). This series is open to survivors of all identities from the UC Santa Barbara undergraduate and graduate communities. The workshop series includes activities such as yoga and reiki, art, dancing, and boundary work to foster a tight-knit community. We aim to give survivors an essential toolkit of coping and self-reflection skills that will help guide them in their individual healing journeys.
This is not a space where participants recount their past trauma-- rather, participants are united by the shared elements of their healing paths. All participants will be asked to agree to standards of group confidentiality to create a safe and welcoming space for healing, growth, and compassion for all. Your information will always be treated with the utmost respect and privacy.
Our Spring 2023 series is planned to take place in person on a weekday evening within walking distance from UC Santa Barbara.
The seven-week series is expected to start on April 19th, 2023, and end by May 31st, 2023. The workshops will take place weekly on Wednesday evenings. The exact times will be sent out later on to ensure your privacy.
Each group is led by one to two peer co-facilitators from The Thriving Initiative, alongside community specialists who will share their expertise with the group throughout this seven-week workshop series. All materials are free of cost and there is no fee to participate. It is our goal to make community healing as accessible as possible, if you have any accessibility needs or general questions please email Emma Wolters, the program manager at ewolters@thethrivinginitiative.org.
